Frequently asked questions
I'm confused! How much will my website cost me? The cost of your website will depend on the day in 2010 that you book it. For example, book 1st January 2010 and your website will cost just £1. Book your website after 1st June 2010 and it will cost £150. The earlier in the year you book your slot the cheaper your website will be!
So my website will only last a day? Not at all! Your website will remain live for 365 days. After that you can either keep your website and pay an annual hosting fee of just £60 (or £6 per month) or I'll email you your website for you to host elsewhere. It's entirely up to you!
Where are you based and can I contact you easily? I live in a little village near Norwich, Norfolk UK called Dereham. You can contact me via email, my contact form or my phone numbers: Landline - 01362 687659 or Mobile - 07967 199178. My postal address is: Kevin Mackay, 6a Jessopp Close, Scarning, Dereham, Norfolk NR19 2PZ. I always reply to messages, usually within one day.
Why do some of your websites look unfinished/empty? Good question! When a slot is booked I email the owner a couple of weeks before their live date and ask for the content for their website. I email them again a week before and then again 2 days before. If the owner doesn't get content to me then I'm pretty much limited to what I can do and the results are websites that look unfinished and empty. To avoid this please ensure you email me the content for your website at least 48hrs before your site is due to go live.
Can I book more than one slot? Yep! You can book as many slots as you like, just read my terms and conditions first please!
Can I decide what my website will look like? Yes, aboslutely! All the sites I will design will be professionally finished. You will have a choice of colours which I will ask you to decide on before your website is live. Half the fun of this project is revealing your website to you the day before your live date.
What can I use my website for? You can use your website for absolutely anything! If you have a business but don't have a website then you can use your WebsiteaDay.co.uk website to advertise your services or products (up to 5 per page).
Do I have to have 5 pages? No not at all. You can have from 1-5 pages. The price you pay will remain the same (up to £150). If you need more than 5 pages then drop me an email and I'll quote you a price for the extra work.
So I need to have a business to buy a website then? No! You may want to buy a website for a relative or friend. Or, you could use your website to promote your upcoming wedding, holiday, birthday or any other special event in 2010. The options are limitless and the only constraints are your imagination.
Do I need to be based in the UK? No! You can be from anywhere in the world. Just as long as you speak English. Because I don't speak another language.
Can I sell stuff on my website? Your website won't be an eCommerce site but you can order a basic eCommerce system which will allow you to add an unlimited number of products to your website for just £200. This will be integrated with PayPal so your customers can pay with their credit cards even if they haven't got a PayPal account. Your website will take longer to build though so you'll need to book at least a month in advance to give me time to build it for you.
Can people leave messages on my website? Yes! If you require this feature you will need to request it at the time of ordering as I will need to create an admin page and database for you. Remember that your website will also have a contact form so people can contact you via your website.
Can I update my website? Yes. Just email me the changes and I will edit your site content within 48hrs. Alternatively I can add a CMS (Content Management System try it here) so you can login to your website and update your pages in real time. If you'd like this feature please let me know when you place your order. There will be an additional fee of £50 for this. I will invoice you via PayPal once your order has been confirmed, or you can order it yourself when you book your slot.
Can I have a blog? Yes. If you'd like this feature please let me know when you place your order. There will be an additional fee of £50 for this. I will invoice you via PayPal once your order has been confirmed, or you can order it yourself when you book your slot.
How much is hosting? Hosting is included for all websites for 1 year. If you wish to keep your website the following year then the hosting will cost the same the following year. So, if you booked your website for 25th Jan 2010 then the hosting cost for 2011 will be £25, up to a maximum of £60 per year per website. Please see my hosting website AceHosts.co.uk
What's the catch? There is no catch! Your website is your website and you will retain copyright over it.
What will my website be called? Your website can be called anything you like (as long as it's decent and available)! All personal websites will have a subdomain, for example [YOURWEBSITENAMEHERE].websiteaday.co.uk. If you want to use a TLD (Top Level Domain) such as [YOURWEBSITENAMEHERE].co.uk then let me know and I will book it for you as long as it is available. Businesses will have a .co.uk or .com domain name of their choice included in the cost of their website (I cannot guarantee your chosen domain name will be available so will need to speak to you to discuss what domain names are avaialble).
Can I cancel my website? No. Why would you want to cancel? You'll be buying a website with up to 5 pages for peanuts!
Will my website get visitors? Your website will get visitors but you'll need to help me out a bit! I will feature each website on my homepage for the day that it was booked, plus it will be added to my Facebook group, a link sent to Twitter, other networking websites and of course, all the major search engines. Ulimately it is up to you how much traffic your website gets. The more people you tell about it the more people will visit it.
Who owns the copyright for my website? You! So, if after a year you don't want to renew your slot, I will email you your website so you can upload it somewhere else if you wish. My hosting fees are just £60 per year.
Why are you doing this? As a relatively new web designer I need to start somewhere. By offering my services for an introductory price I'll be able to build my portfolio so I can show potential clients in the future what I've done in the past. Everyone wins as I'll be kept busy throughout 2010 and my clients will receive an absolute bargain!
